    Summary: Studies and tools development for applications sensitive to data rates is a very active research field. Tools for measuring the end-to-end performance of a link between two hosts are very important for distributed application performance optimization. Bandwidth evaluation methods aim to provide a realistic view of the raw capacity but also of the dynamic behaviour of the interconnection that may be very useful to evaluate the time of bulk data transfer. Existing methods differs according to the measurements strategies and the evaluated metric. This paper analyses the available bandwidth measurements and the total capacity measurements approaches. None of the proposed tools permit to evaluate both metrics while giving an overview of the link topology. An approach using a hop-by-hop packet pair method and a fine analysis of the measurements can provide such informations. The principles of this hop-by-hop measurement of the capacity and available bandwidth method are exposed in this paper. This proposition has been validated in simulation, then implemented in Linux and validated experimentally. We compared our method with the others to define its limits and the potential utilisations on the developed tool.

        Summary: A robust haze-removal algorithm based on the Haze Optimized Transformation (HOT) is applied to ETM+ imagery. Its effectiveness is evaluated using temporally invariant targets identified in a multi-temporal data set of scenes of WRS-2 Path15/Row29. In the data set, clear scenes serve as 'benchmarks' against which the effectiveness of haze removal can be assessed. In the quantitative assessment, two hundred coniferous forest patches were randomly sampled and served as 'benchmark' targets since they exhibit both spatial and temporal radiometric invariance on clear data. Comparisons were made of the radiometric characteristics of the patch population in hazy vs. de-hazed and de-hazed vs. clear image pairs. Results show that image contaminated by low to moderate haze can be significantly improved. Reductions of 20 to 90% in intra-scene radiometric dispersion have been achieved with the de-hazed scenes exhibiting residual dispersion levels comparable to those of the benchmark scenes.

                Abstract
                The paper describes the engineering and design of a doubly fed induction generator (DFIG), using back-to-back PWM voltage-source converters in the rotor circuit. A vector-control scheme for the supply-side PWM converter results in independent control of active and reactive power drawn the supply, while ensuring sinusoidal supply currents. Vector control of the rotor-connected converter provides for wide speed-range operation; the vector scheme is embedded in control loops which enable optimal speed tracking for maximum energy capture from the wind. An experimental rig, which represents a 7.5 kW variable speed wind-energy generation system is described, and experimental results are given that illustrate the excellent performance characteristics of the system. The paper considers a grid-connected system; a further paper will describe a stand-alone system

Based on a new multi-packet delay model, this paper presents a new algorithm called ALBP (asymmetric link bandwidth probing) to measure each hop's link bandwidth in both directions in an IP network, and uses the kernel density estimator to produce a final estimate. Compared with previous techniques, ALBP can eliminate (at least partially) the errors introduced by ICMP replies through the use of interarrival time of two probing packets, and avoid the problem of error accumulation. Simulation results show that ALBP is usually more accurate than both one-packet and packet tailgating techniques, and the bandwidth consumption of ALBP is close to that of packet tailgating.
