                          Summary:In this paper, a new type of AC/AC power converter is proposed. The proposed converter is capable of direct AC/AC power conversion and, except for a few small snubber elements, it does not require the use of any input inductors or a DC-link capacitor. In contrast to the matrix converter, which requires bidirectional switches, the proposed converter consists of only unidirectional switches such as insulated gate bipolar transistors. The converter has a unity input displacement power factor, and its input line current waveform is similar to that of a diode rectifier with a DC-link inductor. The proposed converter has been validated experimentally using an induction motor driven with field-oriented control

                                Summary:This paper describes the control analysis and design of a 10 kVA three-phase utility mobile power supply using matrix converters. Instead of the traditional structure employing a diode bridge rectifier, a DC link and a PWM inverter, a 3-phase to 3-phase direct AC-AC (matrix) converter has been used as the power-conditioning core of the system. An optimizing control design method, using a genetic algorithm approach, has been used which yields designs to minimize a cost function taking into account both the transient and steady state performance targets. Simulation and experimental tests have demonstrated that the system meets the requirements of the relevant international power quality standards

                                Summary:The paper describes a variable speed wind energy conversion scheme where fuzzy logic principles and matrix converter (MC) are used for efficiency optimization and performance enhancement. A squirrel cage induction generator feeds the power to an improved topology of MC which pumps power to a utility grid. The power factor at the interface with the grid is controlled by the MC to ensure purely active power injection into the grid for optimal utilization of the installed wind turbine capacity. Furthermore, the MC to avoid self-excitation capacitors satisfies reactive power requirements of the induction generator. The generation system has fuzzy logic control with vector control in the inner loops. Fuzzy controller tracks the angular frequency with the wind velocity to extract the maximum power and programs the machine flux for light load efficiency improvement. The complete control system has been developed, analyzed, and validated by simulation study.

                                Summary:This paper proposes a neural-network current-regulated switching strategy and an intelligent controller for a matrix converter permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) drive system. By using this new switching strategy, the current harmonics of the system are effectively reduced. In addition, by using the intelligent controller, position control of the drive system can be achieved and an adjustable speed range from 1 r/min to 1500 r/min can be obtained. All the current-loop, speed-loop, and position-loop control algorithms are implemented by a 32-bit TMS320C40 digital signal processor. Several experimental results are shown to validate the theoretical analysis
